This is a forum to discuss advanced pole vaulting techniques. If you are in high school you should probably not be posting or replying to topics here, but do read and learn.

I have just heard it said by many coaches that she executes the technical aspect of her jump better than bubka. Im not about to try to pick apart what ANY vault does better than bubka, that was just something i even thought bubka himself, or maybe petrov, had said. I could easily be wrong. In either case, she is one of the best technical vaulters in the world, and has no problem bending her bottom arm during her jump.

Fair enough if you're basing in on what you've heard.

My assertion is that she is the best technical female vaulter in the world off of the ground. I contend that Feofanova has better running mechanics and posture, a better pole drop, plant, and takeoff (noticeable pre-jump), but due to too rigid a bottom arm and a lack of elasticity in her shoulders, doesn't get around on her swing fast enough and misses the ride. Don't get me wrong, Issy is excellent on the ground too, but I feel Bubka and Feofanova are/were better.

Agreed on the bottom arm reference, and that is what I feel makes her better than Feofanova, besides the somatotypic factors.

Back to the topic, Bubka's left arm is never locked during or immediately after takeoff, but as his swing leg comes through parallel to his torso, his left arm will straighten which speeds up his swing.

Thats good to know. I kind of consider myself far enough along in my pole vault education to talk about correct positions and point them out when seen on video....
but when it comes to critiquing a video beyond a basic sense i have quite a lot to learn, so i try to stay away from analyzing two elite vaulters pros and cons! :deadrose:

Ok, so if your bottom arm isn't straight when you take off, do you want to "throw" or "row" your arms to your shins?

That's a completely different topic. There are plenty of threads on that.

If referring to my comparison of bubka to isi, see previous post :P.
