It does matter because teams like Georgia and Oklahoma get penalized for playing in their championship game and losing.

well, if they werent good enough to beat the team they were playing in the championship game, then they werent one of the top 2 teams in the country at that point
What have you done today to get better?

But it rewards the winner for ducking much the conference. At least in the SEC. The Big 12 regular season still seems to have a round robin feel to it.

The Big 10 and Pac 10 teams play most of the teams in the conference each year. It minimizes the chance of the conference having two undefeated or one-loss teams.

Just look at LSU, who I think actually does belong in the title game because they are champions of their conference. They schedule Western Illinois, Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Tech. Then they get to duck most of the SEC east. Of the two teams they did play, one acts like it has never seen a blitz before and the other came into Baton Rouge and beat them. And they still didn't have to play Tennessee, which was good enough to beat Miami. And as for this "strong conference" talk, one of the sports writers from New York pointed out that the SEC scheduled five out of conference games with teams that ended up in the top 25. They won two. Actually, I don't think his numbers are exactly right, but the winning percentage seems to be pretty close. The Pac 10 doesn't have the best winning percentage, either, but they at least have the nerve to schedule strong teams and aren't thumping their chest this year about having a strong conference.

We could technically have the weakest conference in the country, but it would not stop us from beating our chest and bragging about being the best. Nothing tops southern pride, you'll just never get it Wilson :P

KYLE ELLIS wrote:Well David Green is one of the best qbs in the nation so i dont know where you pulled that stuff from? And Texas isnt a physically strong team? OU beat 7 teams that are in BOWL GAMES!!! North Texas being one of those, because they arent a bad team, its ok i know you dont pay attention to the podunk part of the nation right? And you didn't say who usc beat that was good, because they didn't beat anybody good! They may have scheduled Hawaii, Notre Dame, BYU, but they all sucked this year!!! Theres no point in arguing about what happened happened and usc better get ready to get whooped by Michigan!

First of all, I call Houston home and drive around with a Texas flag front license tag and with a Longhorn sticker on my truck (okay, Becca knows it's actually a Rav4 and not a real truck). I taught at UT Houston Medical School in the Texas Medical Center. Mike Holloway was one of my med students.

Secondly, thank you for giving me an out by calling North Texas, which beat Louisiana Monroe by two - count'em, two points - a good team, because that allows me to say that USC's whole schedule, except for Arizona, was composed of good teams. Arizona, by the way, was the best team on LSU's nonconference schedule. For every Arizona, though, there is a Baylor (I hope Jimmy Autenreith isn't reading this). No offense to the good people in Denton (yes, I've been there), but I don't think we'll ever know how good or how bad North Texas is, as the conference they dominated is so dreadful. I think Lonnie or any of those guys will coroborate (sp?) that.

I admit I haven't seen UT play this year. I think it was because of all those years when I lived in Texas when they were (way) overrated and would get stomped by aTm or in a bowl game. They even got beat by Rice one of those years. I'm afraid we won't get a chance to see how good they can be in their bowl game, as it looks like WSU is going to be playing with an injured quarterback (if he plays at all) in their second consecutive bowl game.

It's ironic that if WSU had beaten Washington, they would still be in the top ten, USC would have gotten their quality win points and we wouldn't be having all these discussions. WSU lost because their quarterback couldn't finish that game. On the USC message board, a lot of the USC fans were pissed at WSU for "choking" until it was pointed out by another USC fan that the guy got hurt when USC was pounding on him (all clean, imo) during their game, so the irony is that the Trojans have only themselves to blame on that one.

David Green one of the best QB's in the nation? Dude, UGa is in the USA, not the Republic of Georgia. And we're not talking about the Athens in Greece! If he were in one of those countries, he indeed would be one of the best quarterbacks in those countries, although I bet I could find some guy in each country that would know when to run for his life and not get blindsided. ;)

I think Tom Arnold said it best when he said that computers are best used for downloading porn. On the same show, OU alum Brian Bosworth said he didn't think OU deserved to be in the big game.

Hey, it's gonna be a good bowl season. The Rose Bowl is the Rose Bowl again and there are gonna be more games that people are really interested in. Chris Rix gets another shot at Miami with a dry field. And the Michigan-USC game is gonna be a really good game.

That attempt to educate me on southern culture sure comes off as yankee to me. Maybe you just don't get it.

I have pointed out to my teammates several times that you cannot be Yankee if you are from the NW :dazed:

I think he is from the San Diego area. I know he struggles sometimes for no good reason; however, when the ball is really wet, it seems to affect him more than anyone I have ever seen.
