Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom Teeth
just wondering if anyone has any good advice on gettin wisdom teeth removed. Im gettin my four wisdom teeth taken out friday, gettin kinda scared. not so much about the operation, but i usually freak out with needlse. I can stay relaxed when I see them, but I turn pale, really hot, nauseas (sp?) and I'm not a big fan of pain. A friend of mine suggested taking some valium before going in, she said it really helps to relax. etc. anyone else got any good advice?

I figured as much. My mom's a nurse so I'll probably consult with ehr and then talk to the doc. My understanding as of now is that the anasthesia is gonna make me feel like $h*t for about a day or two, and from there on Ill be taking as many meds as possible to ward off the throbbing. Boy am I gonna miss them western bacon cheeseburgers while I got chipmunk cheeks....guess im gonna have to live off of smoothies for a while....
for those who've had it done... how long until you could get back doing sports? (not vaulting specifically. as of right now im doing swimming and tomorrow will probly call the doc and see how long ill be out for.)
what kinda stuff did you do during recovery to make it a little easier? hmm.... maybe i could binge on milkshakes. try to numb the pain with the cold while taking my mind off with some killer brain freezes! hmm...maybe it just might work....

READ ME
I had my wisdom teeth taken out a few months ago. I had 3 taken out. My older brother got his take out a week ago, he ahd four. Follow exactally what your doctor tells you. He / she should give you either valium or vicatin before the opperation. Do not eat or drink anything about 12 hours before! THIS EVEN INCLUDES WATER!. The only water you take is a small sip with your pills. The only needle they give you if I remember is one like a little I.V. It is quick and painless, just dont look. After they stuck that sucker in me, I was out in about 30 seconds. Anymore advice about the after effects, just ask!

i had my top 2 taken out about 4 years ago and got nothing but a couple of novacaine shots............then, YANK! ouy they came. I was only out for the rest of the day and was back jumping the next day. It throbbed for a couple days, but nothing a few(8) advil won't take care of .

PoleVaultPlanet is coming.....
I had mine out in college and was a distance runner. I tried to get back to running a too soon and was working construction. I had 4 pulled and it hammered me, I ended up with mono, and wiped out a summer of training. Everyone is different, but I would ease back into a workout routine. They put me under to pull the teeth, just a needle in the arm, count backwards from 100... I was determined to reach 50...I think I made it to 97.

did you get mono from an infection?Ive heard of different things happening to different people because of infections...its kinda worried me. Im pretty sure if youre teeth arent already in (like mine), they do do surgery, like cut up gums and crush teeth in order to extract them. (Imagine the kind of hole they'd have to make in order to fit some kinda pliers in there to pull em out. OUCH!) same thing with the countin happened to my brother. perhaps ill try the alphabet backwards....that would be interesting. and with sports, like swimming, I called yesterday and they said I could go back as soon as I was off narcotics.
My wisdom teeth were bad...all impacted. In hind sight the oral surgon said if he had it to do over he would have put me in the hospital. I've known plenty of other people who had no problem at all. In my case, I just tried to do too much too soon ie. running and a very physical job in construction. One interesting side is that I was in such good shape no one really noticed until my mom saw me sit down after throwing the frisbee for only a few minutes at a church picnic. I was usually the last to give up throwing. She took me to the doctor the next day. I wouldn't over worry on this, just don't be in too much of a hurry to get back to full workouts....give yourself time.

Wisdom teeth
Mine were all impacted, but it depends upon the quality of your oral surgeon. I was able to eat a turkey sandwich the next day (on Thanksgiving), and they had to even get into my jawbone to get two of them. My oldest daughter did fine, but had a dry socket 6 weeks later. Her one side swelled up like a baseball. Don't know how to avoid that. Middle daughter did ok, too. Thank you Lord that Jodie was blessed to not be born with any waiting to pop out! That saved me about $1500!!

That's Jodie!!
