We always use the analogy that the swing (to verticle) is like the tap into a giant on the bars. I was a gymnast for 13 years and really excelled on vault and floor. I think that the speed and power in the run for your vault (gymnastics) and the tumbling on floor also carry over to the pole vault.

umm....the swing and invert, along with being similar to a giant swing on bars, could also be considered similar to a pullover...

pommel horse=nothing to do with the vault
actually i still want to find the man who invented that thing and kick his @$$

but seriously, wouldnt a free-hip to handstand be more similar to vault than a giant?

you decathletes that think you are tough should try gymnastics competition. it is 6 events in one day but the good thing is there is no 1500meters.

i hadn't thought about a freehip...add a twist on top and you've got it :D
but both are similar....the tap in the giant is the specific part she was talking about...

i hav been a competitive gymnast for 10 yrs now (im a freshman) the getting vertical part of the jump is like a freehip handstand on bars in gymnastics. also i guess the running down the runway would be like vault in gymnastics lol (i also kno a website that has each step of the pole vault vault related to a gymnastics track/skill i will hav to get back to u l8er w/ that website tho i 4got the address)
