What would you do??

ok so theres this guy you know is a little better than you and can beat you. But a few days before the meet this guy breaks his number 1 pole, and hes not that good without it. But you have the same weight and length pole he had. he asks you to borrow it. if you say no, youll win, but youll be an a**, or you can say yes, and you lose? what would you guys do?

Let him use the pole. If I'm going to beat some one I want it to be because I vaulted better, not because of equipment.

yep, me 2...i'd allow him(or her in my case...lol) to use the pole no questions asked...its called good sportsmanship...

is he on ur team? if he is a teammate, id let him use it. id have to help a team member out. or if he was a good friend id let him use it. and even if u do, who knows? he could have a bad day and you could still win! if he wasnt a friend or a teammate, its really up to what u think. either leave him screwed, or let him use it, and have some good competition to jump against! besides, people wudnt usually forget favors like that, and it might help u in the future... and besides... do u really wanna win knowing one of ur best competetors got screwed out of the competition, and thats why u won?

I don't like lending poles because if they break yours you could be screwed out of a pole. I know thats a negative point but you got to consider all things. Just make a wise decision for yourself.

If you know the guy or girl well and they're cool with you, let them borrow it. If he/she has been a jerk to you, then don't.

Either way, make it known up front that if they break it, they bought it, and have them promise to make good on it before the pole touches their hands.

I agree. I think its almost common place around the vaulting world that if you borrow a pole and break it that you're paying for it.... but it never hurts to emphasize it.

Personally I would lend him the pole. Granted its nice to win, but for me its more about the height.... first or second isn't much different. If I win I want to know that its because of my height. Now if its also my #1 pole then thats a whole other ball game....

Another thing to consider...let your coach make the decision...then he can talk to the other coach and make it clear about "you break it you buy it".... and your coach might think of it in the context of your team winning. The vaulter could say..oh I'll pay for it...but does he have the $300 bucks or did he get it approved from the school? It's different if they break theirs in a meet and they need to borrow to continue. But if he broke it before the meet...they should have had time to order another pole and have it overnighted and not depend upon their vaulter being able to borrow a pole from another team.... They should never go into a meet ASSUMING they will be able to borrow one....WOULD YOU? :eek:
