Question!

Hi, I'm an 18 year old vaulter living in Norway. Got a few questions and hope some wise person can answer;

1. I was wondering if Pacer Carbon FX poles are equal / the same pole as Carbon FX?

2. Does Pacer still create 4.80m poles, or only 4.70-4.90m?

3. Myself I've never jumped a 4.80/4.90 Pole, especially not a Carbon one, the quest is; How does the pole act compared to 4.60m poles? And how is the stiffness on a 4.80/90 pole compared to 4.60m?
I'm currently using a 4.60m 16.5 flex Pacer Carbon FX, and also a 4.60m 15.0 flex Carbon FX.

4. I've noticed that most of all elite vaulters are using USC Spirit poles instead of e.g Nordic/Pacer/Carbons etc. Why is that? I have, however never tried a Spirit pole myself so I have no experience with those poles. Are they hard to bend? etc. etc.


P.S. You have no idea how lucky you are guys, having pole vault high schools/collages etc. In Norway we have nothing even close to that! All I've got is hell alot of snow, reindeers and polar bears ^.^

I'm not an expert but will try and answer your questions.

1. i think so
2. i don't think they make 4.80's
3. the only difference is the sail piece is higher. Depending on your height, size, grip height, and take off would give you the answer if you posted that information but i by the size of the poles you are on i think you could get on a 4.70 easy and 4.90 might take some work but could still get on them.
4. A lot of elites are jumping on pacer carbons such as derek miles, jeff hartwig, steve hooker, and Yevgeniy Luyaneko to name a few

My grip is on 4.50-55 depends on the pole(s) length and stiffness, however, it feels like 4.60 poles are a bit too short when it comes to my run speed.
I've actually never tried jumping 4.80/90 poles like I said before, but my guess is that I easily could jump one. I'm running about 3seconds flat or less on 30m flying, and my body weight is 73-75kg, depends on the situations (might be 77kg+ after christmas NEVERMIND thatone).
I'm also using a 4.75m Nordic 21.0 Flex Carbon pole, where my grip is 4.60-65. I actually have no problem jumping that pole, having stand on 70-80cm with relative good clearance.
