recommended spike lengths

Unread postby RowBot11 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 10:15 pm

So, i'm waiting on my nike PV II's to come in the mail now, and i e-mailed eastbay, asking what type of spike they come with, and they said they come with 5mm christmas tree spikes. Is this true?

Also, can someone tell me what spike type/lengths would be best for vault, along with the corresponding surface? (i understand different spike types and lengths are more or less effective, depending on the surface).

Not that this should really matter, but on the side, i will do some sprints or other jumps, and maybe once in a while, hurdles, but my question about the most effective spikes still apply to my main event, pole vault.

if the spikes are too long they will tear up the track surface so dont wear really long ones at your own facilities haha

Going off of what nitro said, a lot of facilities/meets don't allow certain spike lengths/types, especially indoors. Compression (Christmas tree) spikes are a big no-no at meets around here... You should check with your local organization about what spikes your ALLOWED to wear first!

why would christmas tree spikes be so bad? dont they like, compress, rather than penetrate the track?

is it possible for someone to give me a general idea of what is and what isn't allowed on the different surfaces?

and not considering the rules, out of your experience, what spikes were your "favorite" type/length?

Just get quarter inch pyramids. They are legal just about everywhere except some indoor facilities that either require no spikes or very small ones.
