Barcodes on Poles

Dear Pole Vault Community

Since the Fall of 2003, Gill Athletics, Inc. barcodes production pole vault poles. This embedded code lists the model number and the poles unique serial number. This allows us to have a tamper resistant record for every pole we build.

For the official or coach that needs to check or verify information, the following is how to read or use the bar code information:

The top number is the model number and would match those found in the Gill Catalog or web site. Briefly here is the model number: 741573 --- 7 is designator for all Pacer Poles, 415 is length (metric) or 13’6â€Â

That just seems a little confusing to me. I'm so used to the way it is done now, but no one ever said change was bad / good / easy!

Nothing's really changing... they just added a barcode. It just means that if an official wants to double check everything they can, and if the label falls off it will be easier for the school to get another one.

This is a good thing, as I have recently discovered that the year before I started coaching at my current school, somebody actually filed off the egraving and re-engraved 2 of our poles to a higher weight rating!

I coulnd't understand why one of my girls couldn't make the transition from one pole to the next. Now I know why. I finally noticed that the flex #s were actaully higher for these two pole than the rest of the line. crazy kids....
