Hello

are you jumping over 14'?
if so move to a shorter pole with more stiffness and weight
do you weigh 155lbs? Sounds like you weight 175 Doing the above will bring you in time with the pole better.
If you weigh 155 and hold 14 on a 15'6" pole you can only be jumping 13'6" to 14" tops.
If this is correct, you need a 14' or 14'7" 155 to 160 to clear 15"
You should never (unless you do not bend the pole) use a pole 12" longer than the height you jump. Taking the time to be on the proper size promote good form.
Cutting an inch off this pole does not help you. The make up and design of various brands cannot provide one with a rule that works on all pole brands.
Cutting an inch lowers the forces into an area that does not have as much glass, especially brands that have made poles with 16" to 19" short sides of the sail.
I realize poles are not cheap, but there are many used poles available out there to get something close.
Jumping on the right stick is of utmost importance to jumping higher.
go to pole calculator if you need help

It also stands to reason that by changing the length of the pole you will alter the flex point (and rating), how it bends and reacts. We had acoach around hee get snactioned for cutting poles and leaving the same size numbers on them. If a pole is shorter, it can also change the weight allowance. Maybe our friend from Spirit should let us know what he manufacturer says.

The guys at Spirit say don't chop poles, same as every other manufacturer.

SKOT wrote:today we found an old 4.90m spirit. someone cut 6" or so off the bottom of it. it has a weight rating of 170 and a flex of ~19.6 i think. what would cutting 6" off the bottom do to this pole? what would it be comparable to now that is it only 15'6"ish?
Only one way to find out....
but i estimate it would be about a 15-6 170
