NO, you do not need to break new poles in!

Just vault with it as normal, and be conservative on your hand grip height until you get the feel of your new pole.

tape near the bottom of the pole to protect it from the plant box. start off with a lower grip too, not too low, but enough to get the feel of the pole. and thats all i can really say about new poles. im working on getting used to my new essx pole. my coach helped me out by borrowing another 13'1" essx pole thats rated at 127.6 and my 13'1 is a 132. its helping me get onto my new pole a lot easier. if you can do that, then u'll be fine
