best 'frosh/soph' standards?

we have gotten a second runway/pit, and have the wonderful 'gold' port-a-pit standards for our varsity kids (they go down to 9'). I'm in need of GOOD standards that'll go down to 6'. Most of the ones I've seen are the 'flat sliding bases' kind, and those start jerking around after about 3 months of use
the bases for the port-a-pit golds are super sturdy and the wheels seem to roll perfectly even after 6yrs of use. is there anything like those that drop lower AND arent through the roof expensive? the closest I could find was http://www.vsathletics.com/product.php? ... 22&xSec=75 which look awesome, but not $3k worth of awesomeness

I would get another pair of Golds and cut 3 feet off the bottom. Otherwise, I think some good standard extensions are available.

I had some standard extenders made by someone local for $50 that I duct tape to the standards. I now have a 8 foot spread to place a bar.

know anyone who's actually done that? I'd love to see exactly what they cut and where.

best bet would be to get extensions for the standards. not really expensive and they're convenient.

and they can be taken off for higher heights...because I've seen many people go into the extensions by bailing in the middle of a jump.

Mounds View HS in Minnesota has the same set of standards (sort of). What I did last year was went to Home depot and bought a couple of Irwin quick grip Bar/clamp spreader, (see it half way down the page at) http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN ... 65&pos=n20
and then unscrewed the crossbar holder assemblies and clamped them lower on the uprights. I measured and marked the uprights so that the top hole in the crossbar holder assemblies corresponded with a particular height. I was able to start at 5 feet and they would go all the way up to 18 or better. It's a good quick fix till you can get the extensions built. I got two clamps when they were on sale for $6 a piece. what my coach did was just take a 8 foot piece of PVC pipe and drill holes every 6 inches into it. he then took small metal rods, the same size as the ones on the standard, and used those in the holes. we now can have the actual standards, the top at 12, with the bottom at 5'5" for the lower hieghts.

really easy in meets too for the lower heights, to raise the bar, just move it up one peg, and thats 6 inches higher.

works great, prob only cost him 15 bucks to make himself.
