Dropping a box in a track

The stadium we have our all-comers meets every summer only has one box. My track club is considering dropping the money to get another box added and having a short runway so we can have two pits going. The current box is at the top of the track on the infield:

Pat thought it would cost around $1000, but I have no idea where he got that number. There is no need to add rubber, the whole "D" is rubberized, we would just need a box put in and maybe two lines added.

Anyone had this done before? What kind of things need to be factored into getting an estimate? We could probably drop a grand on it, but not a _ton_ more than that unless we did fundraising.

I once removed 2 boxes and reinstalled them in different positions. It cost me(the school) about $600. I needed to rent a concrete saw, electric jack hammer, portable cement mixer and a bunch of premixed concrete. It was hard work. The two tricky things were- cutting thru the rubberized surface cleanly so the edges don't curl up and holding the box down with enough weight so it does not float up in the wet concrete and leave a protruding lip at the front. Also you need to cover the surrounding area with asphalt roofing paper to keep the stray concrete from ruining the adjacent track surface.

We used to have two boxes at my high school, and they removed one to expand the infield for the soccer players We kept the box, I wonder if we could use it at Shoreline, that ought to save a couple hundred bucks.
