What to do with a damaged pole?

I recieved a pole that was damaged in shipping and have since recieved a replacement pole. I was told by the company to just discard the pole, but I was hoping there was some way I could use it.

The pole is an 11'6" 130lb UCS Spirit pole. The bottow 12" (by the tip) was damaged in shipping. It looks like something heavy was dropped on the end of the tube). The damage extends only 12" up the pole.

I was going to cut 18" off the bottom making it a 10' pole and using it as a training pole, but I'm open to any other suggestions you might have... thanks.

You might consider making a 'heavy' pole out of it to do the weighted pole tip drill that I've described in my 'database' topic in the 'training' forum. Otherwise, cutting it is not that bad of an idea.

I was considering that, but I have an old 12' pole that I was going to tape some weights to make a heavy pole.

Chop off the bottom right above the damage and it would make an awesome training pole for beginners. I would guess it would make it around a 10'6 150 or so, which isn't going to bend unless someone huge jumps on it which is awesome for beginners.

I would remove the weight rating sticker and let them hold all the way up. Obviously if anyone is bending it much they should go up poles, but not too many small/beginner people will do that.

I have a 10'6 130 Pacer III (recertified) and it is probably my most used pole for beginner girls.

It is so refreshing to not hear the knee-jerk reaction that "cut poles are dangerous and should never be used!"
