box inside of box?
We just finished pouring our new runway and putting the box in it, and I was wondering if you are suppose to put another box inside of the one cemented in the ground. The one that we have now is all nasty looking, and i had to scrape a ton of left over cement out of it, and the origional aluminum look is now white and rough feeling. Just wondering, because I have seen some runways with an extra 'floating" box inside of it, and some that don't have it at all.

You are supposed to clean the wet concrete off the metal box while it's still wet. Then paint it Yellow for good visibility hehehe. When I do this work I hang the box at the proper grade then pour a wet cement around it. Vibrating the concrete making sure to fill any voids around it. On the final screeding I make sure the concrete is smooth to the top edge of the metal box. Thus no lip at all. Any other people with construction questions just email me and I can help. A "floating" box sounds like a recipe for disaster when it rains.

At a high school in our area, one of the schools' box is a little loose...one of the other coaches said that during the Relay for Life [it was held there] she sneaked in and put quick-setting concrete in to keep the box in place...and they found out and took the box out! Its still a little loose, but not as bad. Its still kinda crazy that she fixed their box and they broke it again ON PURPOSE.
