What is the best pit?

Like, the one(s) that are the safest.

The bigger ones that don't swallow you when you land... Avoid Lisco. UCS makes a bunch of good ones.

I would have to go with UCS also!

The best pits i have jumped on have attributes.
- Big front buns,
- A box Collar
- Extends evenly deep, and wide
- Padding around the sides
- Covered standard holders
- Top cover that is clipped and able to be removed
- Angle at front bun that allows for clearance of a bent pole

Hope this doesen't upset pit people!!! From what i know from 50 yrs of experience, it's pretty simple to me that you make the pit to FIT THE BOX and eliminating all the added stuff. UCS has finally done that with their new pits and also Buck Terrell Athletics in tx are doing the same, and on that same note; since the rule change on vaulters( especially hs) having to jump on poles equal to their body weight, you will have alot more injurys from hs kids not making the pit. I would have made it mandetory to have pads extend 7' OUT IN FRONT of the box., But what do i know being a 50 yr veteran and also 2 time masters world champion!! Coach Charlie

Good thought, would you mind further explaining what you mean by "fit the box"? I am interpreting it as make sure all hard surfaces are covered around the box. But in case I am missing the point, it would you explain? -Thanks

You are exactly right!! the slant in back and sides of the pit actually fit the box , don't know why it took so long to figure that out. May be they should have asked a vaulter!! Charlie
