Has anyone tried to fly with poles on Airtran?

does pole fit on a Boeing 717?

Another email I have from 2006:
Air Tran will take poles given a $65 oversize baggage fee. 16’+ poles are a bit tricky on many of their planes. Anything smaller than a Boeing 717 might be a no go.
