Can you make your own standards?
I cannot afford to buy pole vault standards and wondering if I could make my own. Maybe PVC pipe, 5 gallon bucket with concrete, etc. If anyone has made standards before or has any ideas please let me know.

Yes you can. But do not use PVC and concrete....
You can find enough aluminum square tubing for well under the cost of a standard if you can find someone that knows how to weld and is wiling to do the work for free. A lot of places will donate that small of material if they know it is for a local high school.
You would just need around 2x2in square aluminum tubing.

Re: Can you make your own standards?
I would like to second what PV2020 said. My personal standards are 2x2" tubing welded at none other than Bell Athletics. You could also bolt a tube collar to a base and slide the square tubing into it. That would require a drill and fasteners and not require any welds
