Length from top band weight

Unread postby JTred » Wed Feb 15, 2006 7:45 pm

I know that if you grip down that every fso many inches equals about 5 pounds in flex rate right? My question is how many inches equals how many pounds over the rated weight of the pole? I want to know becuase I want to know if I'm ready for the 150 that's (hopefully) going to arrive soon. Also, how low is too low?

It's going to vary from pole to pole, and where you are in relation to the sail piece, but 6" of grip roughly equals 10lbs of stiffness.

How low is too low? It varies from pole to pole. I have a 12'4 118 that I have seen people grip 10'6" on and it bends and rolls over fine. My school has an 11'150 or so that I've never seen anyone do anything with if they grip lower than 10'6".

So if I'm currently 6' down on a 13' 145, I should be okay (after a few practice jumps at the lower grip) at the top of a 13' 150?

I assume you mean 6" ;)

6" down should be no problem on any pole as far as being relative to the sail piece.

When you move up poles you should start with no more than an inch or two higher grip, and you should only be moving up poles because you were BLOWING THROUGH the smaller pole.

If you are vaulting with the standards at 80, and hitting the bar on the way up, and the pole is not bending too much, then you could raise your grip.
