Pole Vault Trainer

On Everythingtrackandfield.com they have this "pole vault trainer" device, basically a steel cable hooked up to a pulley with ankle cuffs and a pole piece on the end to initiate proper body position at the top of the vault and such... my question is... why is this thing $200+ ?? I've come up with costs for those materials and concluded that I could make that thing... nearly exact to its specs for under $75... if i searched more, probably under $50.

You're absolutely right. I actually sunk the money into one of those and while it is certainly a worthwhile device you could definitely MacGyver one up yourself. Dave Counts (former Brookline HS coach now jumps coach at Harvard) can probably help you with this as he had a sweet setup of his own at Brookline.

welcome to the world of big business. when you pay someone to make something for you, you are paying the workers to make it, the rent for the building to make it in, the guy to supervise the assembler, the guy to supervise the guy that is supervising, you are paying the person selling it and the guy who invented it to sit around and drink champagne!

its almost as bad as going to McDonalds and paying $4.50 for meal that cost them $.50 MAX in materials to make!

I agree with that SKOT... and this pv trainer is like the simplest design i've ever seen.. its nutty.
