I found it on archive.org. It was only 10 of 12 summer competitions over 5.90 plus the 5.85 & 5.60. I must be getting old since I remembered it being 20-odd comps. I guess that's why I also have memories of jumping an unratified 19' in HS and throwing that football over that mountain...Still, though, his results in '97 were ridiculous to say the least...

Yeah Sergei snuck past him with a 6.05 jump to take gold in that meet - that was a pretty impressive jump as well...

That 6.05 vault of Bubka's that was linked to on here somewhere a week or so ago was the vault that beat his 6m.

Also, I think it was '97 when he set the WR for opening height...5.90. One vault and done for the win. That's pretty demoralizing to the competition.

Look how skinny he was at 21 when he jumped this. Once he matured a bit more and gained weight on his 6'6" frame he wasn't nearly as athletic. It's pretty impressive he still jumped over 5.90 at 225lbs+ though.

I would say yes. Track and field in general is still much more of a spectator sport in europe, than the US. There are hundreds of street meets, and exhibitions over there every year and a lot more money involved.

What country are you from? Cause where i'm from we've had 4. You can also note that US vaulters tend to be a older when they retire and PR. But maybe they miss there physical peak, when they finally hit there technical one???? Something worth studying i agree.

Haha check the date of the post you are quoting. I think this thread started before Tim and Brad had jumped 6 meters.
