Greetings from the Patriot Pole Vault Club staff and a Happy New Year to all of you. We hope that this holiday season has brought you good times with family and friends. We have a few HUGE announcements to make :-)
Reno
Coach Combs, Coach Ingrid, Coach Iggy and myself along with vaulters Lou DiNatale and Erinn Dandley went out to the USATF National Pole Vault Summit last Thursday-Sunday http://www.polevaultsummit.com/. Congratulations to Erinn who set a new PR by clearing 9'4" and placing second at her pit. Lou also had a notable performance clearing 12'2". Check out the experience through Coach Ingrid's Reno Blog http://patriotpv-reno.blogspot.com/ - she has posted a whole slew of pictures there and will be uploading another couple of hundred soon. There is also a link to the blog on the Patriot Pole Vault website http://www.patriotpv.com.
and now for the REALLY good news :
Indoor Practices
We are pleased to announce that for the first time in our history the Patriot Pole Vault Club will be hosting indoor practices! Yes, we did finally find some space to set up our 'new' purple and yellow mats. Practices are open to all : noobs, intermediates, those qualified for indoor National championships - everyone :-) Even coaches, parents and observers are welcome to attend free of charge. Our hosts are the wonderful folks at Hit Quarters in Shrewsbury (http://www.thehitquarters.com/). Hit Quarters is a 28,000 square foot facility for training in all sorts of sports - soccer, baseball, lacrosse, field hockey etc. We were able to secure practice time there every Sunday starting January 13th and going up until March 30th. Start time is 6pm (NOT 6am Lou...) and quitting time is 8pm. It is recommended that you show up before 6pm to start stretching and helping set up the equipment. We will also need help breaking down the mats and runway each practice, so athletes are required to remain until all equipment has been put away. Come to one session or come to all, it's up to you.
Sunday January 13th 6:00-8:00pm
Sunday January 20th 6:00-8:00pm

Sunday March 23rd 6:00-8:00pm

Call the Patriot Pole Vault hotline (774-276-1617), email one of the coaches (coachdoug@patriotpv.com) or IM (vaultngus) to sign up for practice times. Due to limited space, you MUST sign up for practice sessions ahead of time. We will be posting the athletes scheduled to practice on the website calendar. If we have extra space, walk-in's will be accepted.
Practice Format
Practice formats will be similar to the summer program
warmups
stiff-pole vaulting
short run-short pole vaulting
plant and form drills
gymnastics
core body
Note that we will be jumping on an above ground wooden runway - no spikes allowed yet :-)
Pricing
We do have to rent out the indoor facility, so the pricing will be slightly different than the summer program. It is highly recommended that you pay for sessions in advance. Feel free to sign-up for as many sessions you can attend and pay for them with one check. The cost structure is as follows :
Full Year Members :
$300 per year (also covers unlimited outdoor sessions and early season indoor sessions starting in November '08, access to all Patriot Poles during outdoor season etc.)
$15 per indoor session / $150 for all 12 sessions
Non-Members:
$25 per indoor session / $250 for all 12 sessions
Remember that we will not allow financial difficulties to stop you from vaulting - we have several programs and scholarships available for those who cannot afford the membership dues. Everyone gets to vault!
USATF Membership
No matter whether you decide to become a full member of Patriot Pole Vault Club or not, you MUST be a member of USA Track and Field to vault with us indoors. A membership with USATF covers our insurance. If you were a member of USATF last year, remember to renew 'cuz all their memberships end in December. We will be asking for proof of your USATF membership at your first practice. No USATF membership...no vaulting. Go to http://www.usatf.org/membership/
Volunteer Your Services - Build a Runway!
We are currently building an above ground runway for use at the facility. All of the supplies have been purchased. If anyone would like to help out in this project, feel free to contact us. We'll be constructing Tuesday, (1/8) from 5pm on and Thursday (1/10) from 5pm. We'd love the help of some people with drills, hammers, and enthusiasm. We will also need help moving the runway, the mats and other related equipment over to Hit Quarters in the upcoming days. Contact Coach Doug if interested.
