Athletics: Top Americans set for Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 26



BOSTON (Jan. 15) -- Jenn Stuczynski, who last summer broke Stacy Dragila’s outdoor American Record in the pole vault; Reese Hoffa, the reigning shot put World Champion; and Kara Goucher, 2007 World Championships bronze medalist at 10,000 meters, have been added to the roster for the Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 26, organizers announced today.

Also set are Khadevis Robinson and Nick Symmonds, ranked #1 and #2 in the nation for 2007 at 800 meters. Robinson, a 2004 Olympian, is a four-time US Champion, while Symmonds is the 2007 US Indoor Champion.

Stuczynski, the reigning US Champion both outdoors and indoors, became the #2 female vaulter of all time when she jumped 16 feet last June at the Reebok Grand Prix. Hoffa, ranked #1 in the world for 2007, will face the #2 and #3 throwers: 2005 World Champion Adam Nelson and 2004 World Indoor Champion Christian Cantwell. Goucher, whose World Championships medal was the first ever for an American woman at 10,000 meters, also has run the fastest US time ever for the half marathon.

The women’s 200-meter field will feature the professional debut of Shalonda Solomon, the 2004 World Junior Champion and 2006 NCAA Champion while at the University of South Carolina.

Since the Reebok Boston Indoor Games began in 1996, more than 90 Olympic and World Championship medalists have competed in the event, which has also played host to five World Records and nine American Records. Sponsored by Reebok International Ltd., with its world headquarters in Canton, Mass., the event is owned and produced by Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc., an athlete-representation and events firm based in Boston.

Stuczynski set to fly high in Boston

Boston, USA - Jenn Stuczynski, who last summer broke Stacy Dragila’s outdoor American Record in the Pole Vault, Reese Hoffa, the reigning World champion for the Shot Put both indoors and out, and and Kara Goucher, 2007 World Championships 10,000m bronze medallist at 10,000 metres, have been added to the roster for the Reebok Boston Indoor Games on 26 January.

Stuczynski, the reigning US Champion both outdoors and indoors, became the second best equal female vaulter of all time when she jumped 4.88m last June at the Reebok Grand Prix. Stuczynski, who will turn 26-years-old on 6 February, was hampered by a back injury later last summer season. She has an indoor PB of 4.72m and opened her current indoor season with a 4.61m victory on 4 January.

Medalists, record holders on tap for Reebok Boston Indoor Games

INDIANAPOLIS - Reese Hoffa, Jenn Stuczynski, Dwight Phillips, Adam Nelson, Khadevis Robinson, Angela Daigle-Bowen and Galen Rupp headline a top international field that includes Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba and Meseret Defar for this Saturday's Reebok Boston Indoor Games, the second event of the 2008 Indoor Visa Championship Series.

Track fans around the country will have limitless opportunities to catch all the action from Boston. ESPN2 will broadcast the meet, hosted at the Reggie Lewis Center, from 3-5 Eastern Time on Sunday. Beginning Tuesday morning, the meet will be available via Webcast, linked from www.usatf.org.

Stuczynski looks to improve on great 2007 season
Reigning Reebok Boston champ Jenn Stuczynski left no doubt in 2007 that she is the new queen of the American women's pole vaulters with wins at the Tyson Invitational, adidas Track Classic and Reebok Grand Prix in New York, where she became the second woman ever to better the 16-foot barrier with her American outdoor record clearance of 4.88 meters, 16 feet. Stuczynski will be challenged Saturday in the women's Nutrilite Pole Vault by 2007 USA Outdoor runner-up Niki McEwen, 2007 USA Outdoor third-place finisher Jillian Schwartz and Canadian record holder Dana Ellis-Buller.

Stuczynski and Cantwell rule the field

Jenn Stuczynski and Christian Cantwell, both current world leaders, won their respective events but did not improve their season-leading marks.

Stuczynski passed up to 4.50m in the Pole Vault, with only one other athlete still vaulting. She cleared that height on her first attempt, and 4.60 on her second, before setting the bar at 4.82, which would be a world leader and an American record (both marks Stuczyski currently holds).

"I came up short on the first two," Stuczynski explained later, and though the third was a good attempt, she thought, it wasn't a clearance, and the marks stand for at least another week.
