I believe after jumping 5.97 Lojo jacked it up to 21' for whatever reason. Maybe to prove the 6.40 model correct? Without seeing any video, I'll hazard a guess and say none were close.

Markov attempted either 6.15 or 6.16 after clearing 6.00 for the first time in New Zealand.

If I remember correctly, Mack may have attempted a WR after clearing 6.01 in Monte Carlo. Not sure on that though.

Other than that, I don't know of anyone attempting a 20'+ bar.

Hartwig did at '99 nationals after he got the AR. Jan Johnson has the attempts on his Sky Systems 5 - AWESOME video BTW!! Bubba

One would also think that Tarasov has certainly attempted it as well.

Tarasov never once attempted a PR after he cleared 6m the first time unless he had to in order to win...which is how he got his 6.05 PR losing to Bubka in Japan.

I've always been curious for his reasoning.

I had a twenty foot jump in practice one time... over a bar! But I have always been a better practice jumper than meet jumper ;)

I really want to attempt the world record at a meet this season... you know, and get that dude to announce it and everything... I just think that would be so cool to have said that I attempted the world record. Maybe in high jump too...

Walker jumped at 6.15m outdoors last year at the IAAF champs after he won. He only took one jump at it but it was actually not too terrible. Definitely a 6m+ effort.

so considering how few attempts have been made at a new world record, would it not be safe to say that the current pole vault world record is one of the most "untouchable" records in track and field?

The pole vault record is pretty out of the question mainly because the man that set the record later was in a position to shorten the pegs the bar sits on and also made another rule to round the other three sides of the cross-bar ends...

Both things he didn't have to deal with and changed to protect his own record.

Pretty shady and borderline cowardly if you ask me.

That is kind of weird. But if you dont touch the bar you dont have to worry about any of those things i guess ;).

He might as well say that when a world record is being attempted, claps are illegal and flash photography is manditory.
