pole runs

Unread postby pvjackex » Fri Aug 08, 2003 5:55 pm

i want to do pole runs but i have some questions about them.
1-how many sets/reps of how much meters do i run.
2-am i suppose to be running like i run on the runway, or is it an all out sprint the whole way.
3-do i run with the pole i jump with or the fattest one i can find in the shed

Couple of approaches to doing them.

Same number of steps as your current run or add one stride.

Run the best you can run and still takeoff.

Use the biggest pole you have jumped on or go up one stick.

My 2 cents,

Man u r on the right track w/ pole runs early season do 20-25 stride runs working on carry and ur stride, in season go from ur normal run. There is alot to a run ( good run) And also try accelerating fast as possible las t4-6 w/ out planting u should be running almost out of control fast. This will help u control ur run. Id say practice running w/ good posture, pole carry out of ur vision and high, keep that left forearm close to ur stomache, and while u accelerate staying tall!

use forum.... very key....( i.e. HIGH KNEES )

quicken last steps.. as mr. ellis has said..

grab the biggest pole you can FIND!!!

work on timing, dont just plant and run through at the end. plant drive the knee and continue with a jump up.

hope this helps..... aint it great having a thousand coaches.??

just think if everyone did what everyone said, we'd all jump 20 feet..

video tape it...you can get anyone to do this, they dont need to know about form or whatever, cuz you can see yourself what you are doing right and wrong.

It would also be helpful to do towel drills also, if you aren't already. Except for being inside or outside (which you just might feel), the towel will just give a good estimate on your run.
