Hey, I'm going to be a freshman next year at Haverford college, and my future vaulting coach is Irv Mondschein. I've heard some great things about him such as he coached the Israeli Olympic team, coached at UPenn, and he was an assistant coach in 1988 for the U.S. Olympic team.
So, I was just wondering what you guys knew about him? How is he as a vaulting coach? I'm very curious and excited to be vaulting under him next year.
Here's what I found on the internet

Thanks!
anyone know Coach Irv Mondschein?

ps... pm slickvt
thank you dj.... its always nice to hear things like that. although slickvt probably doesn't know him quite as well as i do .
I have actually only gotten to work with my grandfather on a few occasions, mostly I just hear stories around the track from some of his former athletes. I guess the one thing that stands out in my mind more than anything from all accounts is that he just keeps things light and fun. I think in the pole vault thats especially important as it seems there are far more days when things are a struggle than there are when things go right.
i think you will have a blast as well as learning a lot.
all the best

sorry Brian i posted the wrong user name..
he used to bring athletes to the florida relays when i was one of the decathlon directors in the '70's.. i also worked at the ncaa d1 level for 6 years.. we crossed paths a few times..
he always said, with my southern accent, that i would have to have an interpreter to recruit in the north east.. lol
good sense of humor.. really.. and i respect his coaching methods as well as his desire to have everyone be all they can be...

I was fortunate to see Irv speak at the USTFCCCA convention in Phoenix, AZ this year.
Seemed like a good guy, pretty funny speaker. He told some good stories about g'pa!
