Maybe the complete results from the meet were never submitted to USATF? I can't think of any other reason.

I was at the meet and I heard that the office to send the results may have been flooded. That could have delayed the info from the meet. He did jump 5.60 and it was a great jump! Awesome job Jordan

Daniel Ryland told me he is not going to declare. He's not at 100% yet and he wants to give a lower guy an opportunity.

Anyone know if Ray Scotten is going to declare?

He must be really not close to 100% to not declare.

It looks like the list is about set. There are 19 guys at 5.60 and above and they are all set.

As of right now,
Place 20 = 5.58
Place 21 = 5.57
Places 22-23 = 5.56
Places 24-27 = 5.55

So if Daniel does not declare at the last minute, Colwick, Harvey, Litchfield, and Jordan Scott should make the cut. For some reason USATF never took Jordan Scott's 5.60 jump and he is listed at 5.55.

I would think Tye and Paul would not have trouble making it out there at the last minute, and maybe Jordan Scott already got tickets after he jumped 5.60, but I wonder about Jason Colwick?

The women are pretty much all set too. Just like in 2004, it took 4.30 to get in. There are 25 women with that mark or better.

For comparison, for the men in 2004 it only took 5.51 to get in.

From 2004 they lost:
Eric Eshbach - Retired
Robert (Bubba) Mclean - In and out of retirement
Lawrence Johnson - Retired, coaching now
Jim Davis - Retired
Adam Keul - Retired, focusing on grad school
Kurt Hanna - Retired?
Keenan King - ??
Patrick Manson - Almost made it this year at age 40!
Matt Phillips - Retired, he's a firefighter
Daniel Trosclair - Retired?

In 2008 we have added:
Mark Hollis - Talk about coming out of nowhere. In 2004 he was like a 15 footer.
Rory Quiller - Representing the northeast
Brian Mondschein - Representing Pole Vault Power!
Graeme Hoste - He and Brian will make sure Toby is not the only helmeted vaulter this year
Jeff Ryan
Paul Gensic - Just missed the cut in 2004
Darren Niedermeyer - Another guy that came out of obscurity
Ray Scotten - Also just missed the cut in 2004. Does he still do the Huffman roll sometimes?
Chris Steddum - Also just missed the cut in 2004.
Brian DaCunha
Mitch Greeley
and probably
Jason Colwick
Paul Litchfield - also just missed the cut in 2004
Jordan Scott

Erin Asay
Andreé Pickens
Melinda Owen
Stephanie Bagan
Brysun Stately
Tori Anthony
Ellie Rudy
April Kubishta - Little sister of the above mentioned Lesa

Still Waiting

tflagstad@journalnet.com

Jackie Poulson started the 677-mile drive to Eugene, Ore., for the 2008 U.S. track and field Olympic trials on Tuesday.

Whether she'll get to compete when she gets there is still uncertain.
The American Falls native and Idaho State assistant track and field coach has been waiting to see if her top heptathlon score of 5,629 will earn her a spot in the field for the event that starts Friday. Fellow Idaho State assistant Paul Litchfield has faced a similar week of agony while waiting to see if his mark will hold up in the men's pole vault.

''To be honest,'' Poulson said, ''it's kind of been hell.''

For the heptathlon, the top 18 athletes qualify for the trials. Poulson's mark is the 19th best in the country, and up until early Tuesday evening, one heptathlete above Poulson hasn't declared for the event. But later Tuesday night, Sandy Fortner of Albuquerque, N.M., decided to compete, and her top performance of 5,641 knocked Poulson out of the top 18.

Poulson still has hope, though, as she's heard talk of organizers expanding the heptathlon field from 18 to 24 participants. If that happens, she's guaranteed a spot.
All the unknowns have created a high level of tension for the past week.

''It's stressful waiting for someone else to do something. It's not in my control, and it's not my decision,'' Poulson said by phone before Fortner had formally declared. ''It gets really frustrating. I slept a little better last night knowing some changes might be made, but I haven't slept that much.''
Litchfield knows the feeling.

His top performance in the men's pole vault - a clearance of 5.55 meters or roughly 18 feet, 2 1/2 inches - puts him in a three-way tie for 23rd on the declared list for the trials.
The top 24 vaulters make the field for the event, but Litchfield still isn't a lock.

Two athletes who have recorded higher jumps than Litchfield have yet to declare, and he's not sure how ties are sorted out.
''It's killing me, man,'' he said. ''I don't know if I've ever had this much emotion. It's like up and down, being on a roller coaster.''

Two weeks ago, Litchfield went on a week-long trip to California to compete in several events to try to improve his marks. He said he felt good but couldn't quite get over the bars he needed to.
A few untimely misses have put Litchfield in the spot he finds himself now.

''I've been down in the dumps for the last week,'' he said.
Unlike Poulson, Litchfield wasn't planning to make the trip to the trials if he wasn't competing. Even though the opening round of the men's pole vault starts Friday, he was still in the Gate City on Tuesday afternoon trying to sort things out.

He plans to make the long trek to Eugene alone today unless he drops in the declared list or officially hears he didn't make the cut.

''I don't know if I should get excited about it and get ready to go or just try to stay cool,'' he said. ''Most of all, I'm just trying to not get bummed about it.''

Even though their spots at the trials aren't guaranteed, Poulson and Litchfield have had to keep training and preparing as if they're going to compete this weekend.

That effort might be wasted, but it's a chance the athletes must take.

''If I really want it and really want to go, I have to be ready,'' said Poulson, who competed in the trials for the 2004 Athens Olympic. ''Whether I get to go or not, at least I'll know that I was ready.''
