Indoor Vault Box

Unread postby gfilosa » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:36 am

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an indoor vault box? I've seen plenty of places with a box cut into the floor or mounted as a part of a raised runway, I'm talking about a "portable" one. If my memory serves me correct, my old high school had one. From what I remember it was held in place on the gym floor via suction. It had a fan that ran and held it in place. The odd thing was I only remember seeing it once. We had a 16' vaulter at my school during my sophomore year and it was used as a part of a sports demo put on for incoming freshman.

Does ring a bell for anyone?

sounds to me just like a slide box because you arnt planting into the ground... there could be one out there but it would be practice only because you would have to use smaller poles because you basicaly just shrank 8in.

They are super dangerous and ought to be banned IMO.

I discovered that the other day. I found a thread on an old pole vault message board, http://www.polevault.com/wwwvault/messages/9118.html. Apparently the inventor of the box was talking about how dangerous it was.

[i]I know what you mean the box was made to use with training poles only. (not for holding high)
You have to drop to two lengths lower in poles at the same weight rating for them to work on the box. ( as is noted on the side of the box in the warning)
It also says on the side of the box to use mats on the sides to protect those vaulter who do not get into the pit.
Because people would not follow the directions is why I do not produce the product anymore.
In High school we used a flat plywood with sheet metal in the box area and we slid it under the pit for stability. I jumped 12'6" in a competition on a concrete floor with the flat box for first in the KC indoor city championships. I do not reccomend it for personal best jumps.

It is kinda like the guy who invented the TV that you had to get up and change the channel rather than the one that allows you to set in the chair and switch the channels.
Other words you are using something that was first invented in my High school days in 1966 and was sold up until 1988. So they are over at least 15 plus years old. They worked for what they were intended for. Sorry they are out of date today. Incentive: build one better, I think you just have to talk them into putting permenent box in the floor.

No offense taken I agree they are not worth the effort.
