USA Indoors - Jenn Stuczynski new American Record 4.83m
Maybe raising the standard in a post-Olympic year has a bad idea
Women's Pole Vault Qual. Mark Entry Declaration
Jennifer Stuczynski unattached / adidas 4.82 qualified declared
Stacy Dragila unattached / Nike 4.61 qualified declared
Lacy Janson unattached / Nike 4.50 qualified declared
Melinda Owen unattached 4.15 qualified declared
Erica Bartolina unattached 4.20 qualified scratched
Why no Chelsea Johnson or Becky Holliday? The word needs to get out that people who are close to the qualifying mark for indoors and want to compete should enter. It seems like they usually let them in. They should have an A standard and a B standard for indoors to encourage more people to enter. It looks like most of the women's fields are quite small.

Re: USA Indoors - Tiny field for women
not to be biased or anything, but a lot of women train on the west coast, and it costs a fortune and an entire day to travel to the east coast. It took me 15 of traveling from the time I left my house in idaho yesterday to get to my hotel. Plus there are no world championships this year so theres nothing on the line.
If someone tries to step on your dreams.... Step on their face.

Re: USA Indoors - Tiny field for women
Prize Money
For the 2009 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, USA Track & Field will pay prize money to the first- through third-place finishers in each Championship event. The prize structure is as follows:
1st - $2,500
2nd - $1,500
3rd - $500
Travel Funding
An allocation of funds will be provided first to the defending U.S. Indoor Champion* in each event, and then to the top four ranked indoor performers, based on the 2009 U.S. Indoor List.
If the defending U.S. Indoor Champion is not entered and qualified for the Indoor Championships by the on-time entry deadline (Monday, February 16, 2009 by 11:59 p.m. ET), funding will then be allocated to the top five (5) ranked performers in each event who have entered by the on-time entry deadline and who have met the qualifying mark.
For this allocation, funds will be awarded to the top ranked athletes based on rankings in the distance/discipline and NOT times or distances achieved in alternate qualifying distance/time being contested at the Championships (i.e. 60m, but not 55m or 50m). The only exception to this would be in the case of the allocation to the Defending Champion, who simply needs to be ENTERED AND QUALIFIED in order to be allocated and, therefore, could use an alternate distance/time.
In addition to the payments as described above, an allocation of funds will be provided to those athletes who were not allocated funding prior to the Indoor Championships but who place in the top three (3) in the event at the 2009 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
In order to be eligible for the Indoor Championships travel allocations, an athlete must be a current USATF member in good standing; must have entered by the on-time entry deadline (Monday, February 16, 2009 by 11:59 p.m. ET); must have met the qualifying standard set by USATF no later than the on-time entry deadline; and must be a citizen of the United States of America who is eligible to represent the U.S. in international competition.
* Athletes in all events at the U.S. Indoor Championships, including the defending champion, must have posted a qualifying mark during the qualifying window in order to qualify for a travel funding allocation.
Notes:
* Travel funding breakdown:
o Airfare: based on a "supersaver" fare (21-day advance purchase/Saturday night stay-over)
o Per diem/accommodations will be a flat rate of $250
* Travel funding distribution:
o Athletes who qualify for pre-allocations will receive their checks at packet pick-up prior to the Championships
o Athletes who qualify for post-allocations will receive their checks via mail (U.S. Postal Service) after all drug testing results have become final
Beckie and Chelsea would have had their trips mostly paid for by USATF and a good chance at winning some prize money.
Sure, if you are a west coast girl who is not really qualified, maybe it's not worth the trouble, but I think Marissa Dudek is in the area and was not that far off the entry standard. But I don't know, maybe they are pickier on the women's side. Maybe they prefer events with only 4 athletes.
I wonder if the PV women's development chair contacted athletes who were eligible for funding and made sure they knew? I was surprised a year or two ago when Grande didn't enter because he didn't know he was eligible for funding and couldn't afford the trip.

Re: USA Indoors - Tiny field for women
Boston is a major FPIA if your are traveling with poles. I haven't gone there in several years just for that reason even though Masters Indoors usually are there. I know people will say I've also been banged up for several years; but I would have gotten healthy faster if indoors were somewhere I wanted to go to compete.

They should be underway, I will keep my eyes peeled for updates. I hear it's bad weather and that may have kept some people away.

Re: USA Indoors - Jenn Stuczynski new American Record 4.83m
Track_SharkHere we go, Stacy's last attempt....and she was not close. She finishes at 14-09.
Track_SharkJennifer Stuczynski needs to beat her AR to win the Visa Championship series title. Amber Campbell (WT) is in the lead.
Track_SharkJennifer Stuczynski has the bar set at 15-10, which would break her own American Record again.
Track_SharkStuczynski's first attempt...a miss, and she'll have to get her hips higher as she's close.
Track_SharkStuczynski on the runway for her second attempt at 15-10
Track_SharkShe did it! Jennifer Stuczynski breaks her own American Record with a clearance of 15-10 (5.83m) at USATF Indoor Championships
Track_SharkStuczynski looked perfect over the bar. In the process, Stuczynski is in the lead of the Visa standings by overtaking Amber Campbell.

Jenn now attempting 4.86m. Not sure why only 3cm higher... maybe it helps her with the VISA standings if she breaks the record twice?
