state champ in wrestling and all-state basketball. that is the craziest combo ever.

i was 4th in state wrestling my senior year. i also competed in gymnastics through my junior year in high school.

lets see, in HS ive done cross country (seems many vaulters have, wonder why/if theres a connection) and swimming (havnt seen many there) and diving. in my life though, ive spent several years involved in wrestling, track and field (used to be way good at discus), soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, even t-ball as a little dude. other oddball sports include(d) skateboarding, ping pong, some snowboarding and I learned to surf this past summer. im pretty sure there is more that i am forgetting....

kinda interesting you mention that, bc i just iv been A football player for 3 years, and still am, but decided to run cross country this year too. im not sure if it helps the vault much? its good training though, CC practice is harder than football practice some days...
What have you done today to get better?

cross country is definately not good for the vault. i did run for 3 years in high school(9-11) and not doing cross my senior year definately did not have a negative impact on my vault. really high mileage is not good on the fast twitch muscles. if you are really serious about the vault it is tough to train your body to run long and slow and still have blazing speed on the runway. in college you will seldom see a cross country/vaulter that is good at both if you do see one, but for high school, it is ok. it keeps you in shape, but the workouts arent ideal for top end speed
