An inspiring story for you post-collegiate non-elites

I know that there are a number of you guys who post regularly (and probably some who read but don't post) who are out of college and still training, but are not quite at that elite level.

Scott is a local Washingtonian who jumped 14 feet as a sophomore in HS, then was stuck there for a few years. It took him a few years to figure out the whole jumping in college thing, but he finally ended up at Central Washington University. He ended up being a decathlete at first, and then focused on the vault, but struggled because Central had no coach and only a handful of poles, and ended up jumping about 15'. After he graduated, he found his way up to Bellingham, where there was a need for another coach after our dear friend Scully was murdered. He has been helping coach with the Parks and Rec program and at WWU while continuing to train himself. I picked him up to jump for Club Northwest last year, and he ended up having a great season, breaking the 16' barrier, then 5.05m, and winning Club Nationals in there too.

Now for 2010 he is already basically over 17' (5.17m, close enough) and hopefully the PRs will keep coming!

The purpose of this thread isn't just to brag about Scott (though he is a great guy) but also to be inspiring for those of you struggling to find motivation this year. I hope that we'll see some of you at USATF Club Nationals this summer in San Francisco!

I was at the National Club Championship meet in New York. It was a great experience for me, and I just thought you would like to know I met one of the nicest track athletes ever. Ricky Moody helped me out alot in the jav and high jump ( I didn't pv due to a wrist injury), it was my first big meet and he and so did alot of the other guys there were giving me pointers through out the meet.
Just thought you would like to know your athletes are representing Club Northwest well

Thanks for the post Becca. Scott is a great vaulter and a living example that you dont have to quit vaulting after finishing school. It is a good reminder that pole vaulting takes patience.
