haha, i meant the videos were posted in june, earth time :P I can't wait for him to get healthy. I wonder what Lavillenie's been up to. Them two are the only vaulters I see going 6m this coming year. Anyone else I make have over-looked?? Possibly Malte Mohr i suppose, and probably walker if he stays healthy. -6P

Lavillenie has already jumped in a meet or two, and there are some practice videos posted... in this forum :)

The other big question mark vaulter reportedly returning this year is Lukyanenko.

yea, i saw lavillinie jump 5.65 and nearly kick a 6.40 bungee, but i was wondering more about what type of training he's doing this time of the year. And really? didn't Lukyankenko have to have all the lymphnodes in his back removed?? ouch, and I thought my hip injury was bad . -6P

OK sorry guys, someone emailed me and gave me the scoop on the video. It's actually a couple years old. It got passed around several people and wasn't supposed to be posted on YouTube.

Does anyone want to create some type of chart of how things should look?? I'll start:

3L- PR: 5.32 Grip: ? Pole: ?
4L- PR: 5.61 Grip: 15'8 Pole: 5m 12.9
5L- PR:
6L- PR:
7L- PR:
8L- PR:
9L- PR: 6.06 Grip: 5.12? Pole: 5.20 11.3?

..............BAR.........GRIP...........TO…….....…..MID………….MPS
3L-17-6....5.30.......15-6/4.73......13-0/3.96…..52-0/15.92……8.7
18-0........5.45.......15-9/4.82......13-4/4.06…..53-0/16.23……8.9
18-6........5.60.......16-1/4.91......13-8/4.17…..54-0/16.54……9.1
19-0........5.75.......16-4/5.00…....14-0/4.27…..55-0/16.85……9.3
19-6........5.90.......16-8/5.09…....14-4/4.37…..56-0/17.16……9.5
9-l20-0.....6.05......16-11/5.18…....14-8/4.47….57-0/17.47….…9.7
10-20-6…6.20…......17-1/5.27……...15-0/4.57….58-0/17.78…….9.9

See how these proportions would fit with a theoretical progression

Key elements would be…

First would be the Grip and moving that grip to vertical…

This would depend on the speed he can create from a longer run AND still keep the correct posture into the plant/swing.

All things being equal a longer run should allow for greater acceleration… how much acceleration would depend on the vaulters maximum speed “potential”.

From experience and science I would “guess” his 3L run would start at approximately16 meters or just outside of 52 feet and that his “MID” for the 9L (from video) was 58/17.78ish but should have been 57/17.50 because I do think he tends to stretch just slightly and takes off a little close.

My personal solution to this was to move the run back two steps.. keep the “MID” because it is “all most” on… the extra steps will give more acceleration which will get the runner on and off of each step faster (less ground time per step) creating a more vertical posture, increased frequency over the last 6 steps.. Resulting in more MPS AND the ability to jump (explode) into the plant.

:D

I wish it was that simple.. but we all know different.. but he’s proving to be the best right now, the “numbers”/physics says he can do it and he looks to have the desire to challenge the record.. I think he will get it. He just has to be patient.
