Re: New practice video with my new camera
here is todays vaults, I felt good until my hamstring started acting up and causing me to quit early. Still I did a few good things.

Re: New practice video with my new camera
Hey so I started a blog so I can keep a training journal to track my progress. I also thought it would be neat to share with people what I am doing. My major goal right now is to make the 2012 Olympic trials. Maybe and hopefully this will be the journey I took to get to the trails. I thought some of you may enjoy seeing what I am doing in the vault and what I am doing as far as lifting and other training. If not It will be a good log for me.

Hello, so I had a "meet" today. It was more like a day to jump at some bars. Here is the link to the video.

Re: New practice video with my new camera
Very cool blog, man. One quick question about your lifts:
"For Upper body I lift 3x8(After each set I do with weight I immediately do 6 reps with no weight in the motion of the lift I was just doing(This would be a set then I rest for 60-90sec))"
Is this in an attempt to stimulate blood flow to those muscles for short term recovery purposes?
Also, I'm sure your coach is taking care of you, but for some of your lifts (especially explosive lifts with 8 reps) you would benefit a lot from taking between 2-4 minutes rest between sets. I'm not just talking about being able to go up weight, I'm talking about getting the correct explosive training effect you are looking for from those lifts. It depends at what point you are in the season, and maybe your coach is having you back off the weight and go low-recovery time for a conditioning effect, I don't know what the case is. But have you had that come up at all in your training?
Generally your weightroom training should go from high reps, low weight, low recovery time, full range of motion (at pre-season workouts) towards low reps, high weight, explosive lifts with ample recovery time near the time-frame you hope to peak for. I'm just curious if this generally fits your training? There are many ways to tweak your training, and that's where coaches come in, but there are also some principles that should be followed for specific results at specific times.

Re: New practice video with my new camera
Hey so right now I coach myself. I have people watch my videos on here to point out things, but I dont have a coach setting up my workout routine right now. The lifting is something new I am trying and it is working really good. The reason I am also trying this plan is because last year I would gain like 15 lbs. I have not gained any weight this year. I was 185 last year then went to 172 during outdoor vault season. This year I have stayed at 160lbs some days 158. I have been doing a lot better at this weight. My speed has increased and I am feeling strong, lean, and explosive. My weights are not real high because I am just getting back from a week break of not lifting. I am playing it safe and easing back into it. plus I will maintain good form as i add weight. I got this workout Idea from the a vaulter from University of Washington. I changed it a little bit, but the same kind of idea. It has been working great and I recover fast from it. This year has been kind of an experiment year and it has been going great so far.I have kept everything that I possibly can that My coach at lane that I am not with right now because I could not afford school. I plan on going back as soon as possible though. The only thing I have changed is my weights. Just to try something new.
