Earl Bell's pole length & flex in 1976
MORE INFO
He jumped on a skypole at 18'7" WORLD Record in 1976 it was a 5.6 flex 16'5"
In the trials because Skypole would not make him a stiffer pole of my design for fear the pole would be banned based on what happened the previous Olympics. He switched to Pacer 5.6 5.5 5.4 and I saw him clear 18'8: the day before the trials in training.
These Pacer Poles were a special design he had asked for similar to what I made his SKypoles and Dave Roberts borrowed one of Earl's special pacers in the meet because one of his Pacer poles broke.
He cleared 18'8" for a win and a World Record. I was standing next to George Moore of Pacer when Dave came to him and said I want all my poles made the way you made Earl's!!
In 1977 Earl jumped exclusively on FiberSPort poles and lead the World in his jumps. He jumped 19' on a Maxima 4 Fibersport pole several years later.
That was the season he was the most consistent vaulter at 19' ever!
