pole question

if im jumping on a 13 165, capping it, whats the next pole?

How High are you jumping and where are you typically landing in the pit
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times

It may not be time to move up unlesss you are holding about 12'9" on a 13' pole 165 you should be 155-160 lbs and vaulting 13'3" to 14'0"
ANd if so it is time to move to a longer pole.

We do find that many vaulters capping a 13' pole are jumping around 11' to 12' and might be holding too high or on too long of a pole.
Many times people equate holding high as a means to jump high. You should jump over your handgrip or at least at your handgrip and be on a properly fitted pole at your weight or on a pole over your weight as you progress.

SO give us more information so we can provide more insight

im jumping around 12ft. im landing in the middle of the pads, i have no trouble of getting in. i weigh 145. actually the pole works fine right now, but i need to know what the next pole is so i can try to trade for it from another school.

How high do you hold? right under the pink weight label on a 13ft spirit

How long is your approach? 79ft (7step)

SO you are jumping right about your handgrip with the pole in the box. and on a pole 20 lbs over your weight.

SO here is how you can find out.
Lower your grip and for every inch you lower the grip that is like using a 1 lb stiffer pole. Move it down till you PR. This will be about one fist.
Then if it is 4-5 inches you need either a 13' 170 or a 13'6"-160
When you move to the longer pole only move your handgrip up two fists from the new grip and one first up from the old grip.

Lowering your grip WILL increase your pole speed - you may end up blowing through because you have increased the angle of the pole in the box - yes, it will not bend as much and will unbend faster, but you MIGHT NOT PR if your pole speed is too fast for you to time up over the bar.

Bottom line: the next pole (according to Jan's and EB's relative stiffness charts) can be either a 13' 170, 13'6 160, or 14' 150. I'm a fan of 6" increments in moving up poles, and if you're holding that close to the top, I'd go with the 13'6 160 over a 13' 170.
