his.. 5m-5.05m were jumped at a neat indoor facility just 20k from Lahti..

the records show he jumped 5.10m there, didn't remember that part... our Finland camps were at that facility and the first time i went i didn't even know that was a part of vault history...

George said the poles were patented as synthetic bamboo... i would love to see the patent..

DJ there is a patent for a bamboo vaulting pole in the US patent office.
I will see if I can find it even though you are not allowed to patent an organic plant this did get issued!

hye

George had mentioned that and i really think that is why he and herb felt they could get the fiberglass pole in as synthetic bamboo...

other types of fiberglass were already being used.. i think the decathlete, Bob Mathias in used them in 1948, spun glass, and not much lighter than the steal.. i remember trying one of those myself...

but the outrigger marlin fishing poles were lighter, strong and would bend more without breaking,,,

the world record all the way to Bubka.. followed the development of a "better" pole... maybe not so much of a "better" pattern but much better manufacturing and maybe better available glass...

happy new year

all
