Define sticky grip... anything remotely sticky, or extreme stickiness like reverse wrapping, spraying glue on the pole, etc.?

If you aint MAN enough to hang on then dont jump!! Chalk it up like crazy to aviod the sweat but the sticky addiction can get to be a bad thing. You start out with a little QDA then you move to the super 77 and before you know it your hooked on gasket sealer and lighter fluid........where does it stop, super glue and reverse duct tape?!?!

Just kidding, to each his own but i do know some states dont allow the sticky at the HS level

later, B

Tried it once :o

All comers meet last summer... it started raining hard right before I came in... my poles got too wet and I got too wet and could not even dry them off... yeah I tried that. Didn't like it though :P

Anybody ever notice that high school athletes have no clue on using any type of sticky substance to improve their grip?

sticky grip

Unread postby kierns » Sun Nov 03, 2002 10:11 pm

We were not allowed to use any sticky substance to help our grip. The tape on the pole had to go in the direction from top to bottom, and no reverse taping, sticky stuff, or sprays. But then again, I'm from Maryland, and not many people know what to do with vaulting up there, I surely didn't.

Yeah in Az it's a rule that your only alowed to have one layer of tape on your pole. Even though they never check it or anything. Some people love to feel where the place for their hands are on their pole. On my poles when I vault I have one about 10 inch space at the top of my pole where there is white tape, I dont tape for my bottom hand. And I retape for every meet, I guess thats just my style but thats what I like. What about everyone else.

I can't stand the sticky stuff. I just use the tape, I put it where my top and bottom hands are. But I'm very picky about it, if there is one little corner coming off, I'll redo it. I don't constantly retape poles, but I redid all the poles at our school when I got there, they had so many layers and they were all crusty. And some people do the tape too close when they go around and it's too thick.
