Get ready for the heat

Unread postby achtungpv » Tue Jun 01, 2004 7:45 pm

Yesterday in Austin...100 & scattered rain.

Today in Austin at 2pm (approx. time for M&W qual round): 98 degrees.
Today at 6:30pm (approx. time for M&W finals): 95 degrees.

If you're from a milder climate you'd better hope your coach is bringing you early to get used to the heat. If it's 100 next week you can expect the track temperture to be around 110-115 degrees.

Opalkak, you are going to love Austin if you like 100s and 100s. I've spent 30 years working in this stuff, still have to b**** about it. You athletes that are coming to compete, be ready to hydrate, summer got here early and with a vengance. The qualifying rounds are at a real bad time as far as sun and heat and wind goes. The finals will be a little rough in the early going, but should settle down heat wise. I just hope the stormy weather will hold off, this is always a good time for those little thunderstorms and twisters to blow through here. Actually, the weather forecasters are predicting this little heat wave to abate by next weekend, so hopefully they're right this time. Sunscreen and water, mandatory. Having a good time while you are in Austin, guaranteed. Can't wait to see y all
compete and jump safe, have fun

hey, it was 55 and rainy today.. and yesterday was pretty much the same s***.. though, we had practice anyways cause i don't believe in getting off my schedual.. since my vaulters didn't want a beating, they abided.. crazy thing.. my boy with a meet pr of 14'2"(hell, pr in general) vaulted 15'6" today.. we've worked 2 years on his run=(mn training 12 weeks).. and he's 155lbs grippin' the top of a 14'6" 180 (15.6).. so, yeah, he sit over his pr.. finally today, his left elbow came in, and he did 4 jumps in a row clearing 15'6".. it was tooooo cold and wet for me to raise the bar.. but, i think a couple of those jumps would've cleared 16'.. 55 and rain.. what a great day

Little front blew through Austin today, less humidity and dropped to about 90, should be fair weather for the NCAA's.

Hope its not as wet as Fort Worth, we are flooding here. Any where from 10 to 20 inches of rain since Sunday. How's things down south?

so I'm sitting in the hotel in austin, and rain, followed by rain with a side of rain, is what has been going on. saw becca today  cool shirt. The girls vault started on time 6 hours ago, but after a hand full of girls made the bar and maybe even some had missed three times, they postponed the competition till 9 tonight. I'll probably head over after I grab some food. should be a fun night :)
