Dave is still in pretty darn good shape. I met him at Earl Bell's, he was there with Lesa Kabishta(sp) who was/is training with him in FL. He ran the 15m on the fly, through Earl's setup, and was moving pretty quick. He's a great guy with ton's of nonstop enthusiasm and lot's of great coaching idea's that he shares without hesitation. The kinda guy you like to be around. I hope to run in to him again sometime.

Very humble too. I complimented him on how well Mike Tully and Earl Bell jumped with him as a coach. His response was, "Well I don't know how much coaching I did, I mostly just caught their step."

Yeah, Dave JohnSTON was the guy who helped Earl and Mike in '84 to a silver and bronze medal, and is currently coaching Lesa Kubishta in Florida. He also came up with "The List" as Bubba Sparks and I call his "Anatomy of the Pole Vault Run" which can be seen at http://www.bubbapv.com/Pages/dj.htm If you want to know what it takes to jump high, check this out - great guideline. Terrific and extremely knowledgable and humble guy.

Dave JohnSON was a great decathlete who represented the U.S. in the 1992 Olympics. Remember the Dan v. Dave Reebok commercials in '92? Dan O'Brien NH'ed in the trials pv, and Dave went to Barcelona for the U.S.

By the way, check out my friend and mentor Bubba Sparks' website at http://www.bubbapv.com/index.htm Great info. from a great vaulter and coach.

Oh, c'mon what good is a pole vault forum if you're not willing to stir up a little controversy now and then. :)
