History of US National Results

Unread postby Skyin' Brian » Wed Jul 28, 2004 11:15 am

an interesting page on the T&FN Website:
http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/tfn/ar ... Id=19&id=1

it lists the results of every national championship since 1877
they also have other events on the site. some of the comments under the results are very interesting

Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

Talent in cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.

What if the coin was caught by a bird or landed on the side? What would you do then?

What happened in '88? The '88 Olympic team was Bell, Olson, & Tarpenning. Were the Trials held separately from the NCs? Or are these results completely incorrect?

"It should also be noted that in the Olympic years of 1924, 1936 and 1948–88, the National Championships were held distinct from the Olympic Trials. The latter competition, of course, was the most important U.S. meet of the year, with many of the top athletes skipping the Nationals. "

the above paragraph is from the introduction on the tfn website to the lists. it can be found here: http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/tfn/di ... jsp?id=257

at the top of that page is the link to all of the lists posted so far. all the running events are posted and some field events
