I think it's premature to make assumptions about how she broke her leg. I am still waiting to hear an explanation of how she landed from someone who saw it (Rus??). I think it's entirely possible she landed in the box and crawled or was moved onto the pit to be examined.

correction

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Sun Aug 22, 2004 4:59 pm

Yes I agree we do need more info, However with what has been given by the media she landed in the pit. Yes the media could be wrong.

and correction 1.5 statement above was density not ILD 1.5 density is stiffer than what PV pits are made of.
The ild is about 33 ILD is Initial load deflection. How a cubic foot of foam reacts in recoil when a weight is dropped from a set height. there is an ASTM standard for the foam industry

The ILD of the ground is not part of the standard to measure.
A cubic foot of ground depending on the type of dirt has no recoil and weight in density is about 30 lbs density compared to foam that would be 1.25 density.

PS where is the box collar?

The pit does have a 6" top pad which was making contact with the poles

WHo made the pit for MONDO? that is the question?

According to Kellie Suttle//// Ivanova broke her ankle. When she desended from the bar she twisted in the air and her ankle was wrenched in the extra thick top pad. It was not the pit she said it was brought on by the vaulter in the way she came down in the pit

Mondo

Bruce - I know about the standards - if you remember I sent you a copy of the ASTM Std on PV Pits - Mondo - IAAF Certified Product E-99-0197, Pole Vault Competition - so Mondo has a certified PV Pit - Mondo also makes standards and other track equipment - not just tracks - which is what they do best -

Box Collar - IAAF does not specifically require a box collar - HS Rules Specifically call it out - USATF does not just talks of padding exposed areas
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times

There is a different standard for measure of the IFD initial forced delflection and ILD initial load deflection and the measure of density of foam as an ASTM standard for the foam industry.

The ground has no ILD, IFD or density in the measure?
