Kris wasn't blaming anybody's bad performance on the pits. Obviously Stacy was having major problems in her run and no one hinted the pits were to blame for that.

Watching the tape we just noticed some of the poles looked like they were hitting the pit a little. *shrug* If they were, it looks like it wasn't enough to cause any major problems for anyone.

If you look at this photo of Isinbayeva tonight versus this photo from prelims the pits look like they shifted to the left a little bit. Look at the amount of track on each side of the box.

I don't think most of the poles were hitting the pit hard enough to impact the vault... I guess we're just not used to seeing pits with such steep angles.

In today's Fort Worth newspaper there is a picture of Bryan Clay vaulting and his pole sure looks like it is hitting the pit.
Winners find a way to win, losers find an excuse.

BUT the angle of the pit is no better or worse than any other pit. It is at least 45 degrees (as required by IAAF rules)

The Landing Area
12. The landing area should measure not less than 5m (excluding the
front pieces) x 5m. The sides of the landing area nearest to the box
shall be placed 10cm to 15cm from the box and shall slope away
from the box at an angle of approximately 45° (See Diagram). For competitions under Rule 1.1(a), (b) and (f), the landing area
shall be not smaller than 6m long (excluding the front pieces) x 6m
wide x 0.8m high. The front pieces must be 2m long.

So is it the pit or the vaulter..............or does the rule need to be changed (good luck with that one).
