Toby "Crash" Stevenson???

Unread postby rainbowgirl28 » Sat Aug 28, 2004 12:23 am

I must know the truth... does ANYONE in real life call Toby "Crash"? I have only ever heard Dwight Stones (and now all of the other NBC announcers) call him that.

Toby, Kurt, and a whole bunch of other California people are members of this message board... the truth must be revealed!!

Enlighten us please!

Oh wait it gets better...

This is from several news articles:

Stevenson, nicknamed The Cat in the Hat because of the fact that he wears a black street hockey safety helmet, got the silver with 5.90m.

LOL :P

If I were a TV announcer who wanted to get a feel for what the pole vault community thinks about something, I would read this board

i was wondering the same thing when i was watching the olympics.

the funny thing is, this might be the kind of thing that just might stick on. so i guess from now on we'll be referring to toby as crash stevenson?

I have never heard anyone but the announcer call Toby "crash". He wears the helmet to promote safety in the vault not because he crashes.

Dwight is an endorsee of the ESSX High Jump System and works with us, he has seen the board.

other errors announced...

"Pavlov cleared 5.8, which was announced as being 4 cm above his PR and then later announced as being 1 cm under his PR", actually his PR is 5.85 from indoors.

"Pavlov is in his first major championships", I guess being the '04 Indoor World Champion doesn't count.

"Stevenson is in his first major championship", I guess the '04 Indoor World Championships doesn't count

"Gibilisco just cleared (5.85) a foot over his season best", actually his best this season was 5.82.

I like Stones a lot as an announcer, but you don't have to invent drama when there's plenty around already.
"You have some interesting coaching theories that seem to have little potential."

Yeah I remember him saying something about Toby having no international experience and I thought the same thing about World Indoors.

At least they didn't call him "the Cat in the Hat" on air :P

Yea, I hate how they're practically trying to force the "Crash" nickname upon us by constantly calling him that... it's stupid...
