man o man, this quote is a little out there, id be a little more appreciative if we got more money, i love polevault and thats why i do it because its the best damn sport in the world, but then think about it how much money at your school there is, your football team if D1 has 85 full rides, my track team gets 6 scholarships to spread out over the whole team of 35 guys. which is BS , and after college what do you do, it is so damn ahrd to vault after college and to work at the same time, this sport needs a serious boost in funding and promotion.

theres more than just discouragement in pay. How many pole vaulters are on full rides???? how many get much at all?? the simple fact is this. In this sport you gotta do it because you love to. 99.9 percent of us will not make money doing it. So enjoy it while you can and then move on. Thats life.

-Its not about money. This topic makes me a little sad. I think some of you have forgotten why you started vaulting.

-And if you care that much about how vaulters are not getting enough money what are you complainers doing to fix the problem?
What have you organized?
What sponsors have you found or contacted through research?
How have you marketed the vault?
What are you doing to promote pole vault in the US?
Because bitching online is not going to create a solution to your problem.

There are people out there who are actually trying to solve this problem, and I'm sure they could use all the help they can get. People Like........
-Sean Brown
-Becca
-Bob Fraley
-Dave Nielson
-Jan Johnson
-And many more.......
Where do you fit in that group?

Well Im in college training and working. Im not very good and I have no money so I cant really do a whole lot right now. I dont know why so many people get their panties in a wad when this subject comes up? No nobody gets into polevaulting for money, but if our sport was promoted a little better Pole vaulters could actually train full time instead of having two other jobs on the side to make ends meet. So actually you can say that more money in the sport will help our athletes become better, so to me thats what the whole $ issue is about to me. How many Major Leauge Baseball players have two other jobs and still try to find time to train? And all I am saying is that I think our athletes are a little more deserving thats all. And I think pole vault is being marketed pretty well right now and I think we will see it grow because of whats happening right now in the pole vault community.

If you want to make money vaulting, you can. Treat it like a business. Like any business you need to have a plan. Many people make money with vault related activities to support their vault habits. Unfortunately it probably will be about the money if you plan on continuing... unless you have a silver spoon in your mouth. Most don't, so make it your business, plan it, and work your plan to keep doing what you love after college. There are people all over the country doing it now. Follow some of those examples. They all started with a dream. My wife made me turn my coaching into a business because she was tired of me spending so much money on poles and trips to meets. LOL So my marriage is now better for it too. Good luck if you pursue it!
