People are posting articles with no comment. This is supposed to be a discussion board not cut and paste. That's what they do in kindergarten. It takes no brains or effort to copy and paste something. Take the time to think and evaluate. If we all just copy and pasted there would be no cognitive growth.

This is supposed to be the Elite board where the "Elite" make a good example of how to write, communicate, think, process and evaluate. If the younger ones that read this Elite board think this is the way to study the pole vault, we won't have much growth in the pole vault community.

I'm sure Reuters can take care of itself. If they have a problem, they will have no problem finding to whom to send the cease and desist letter.

I disagree with several of these statements.

First, I don't think it's unfair to the person who wrote the article. I always include the author's name and a link to the original source. It is clear that I am not trying to plagarize anyone else's work.

It seems to me, that the person who spent all that time writing the article would be glad to have more people read their work, especially people who are the most interested in the subject matter. People are reading the same thing whether they read it through my website or the newspaper's website.

If any author had a problem with me posting their works on here, I would gladly remove them. It's not likely to be authors having a problem though, it would probably be newspapers, because they might perceive it as losing ad revenue from people not going to their website and being subject to their ads. And this website is not THAT big. I really don't feel like I am causing anybody to lose revenue if they read an article on this board or on that newspapers' site.


I also strongly disagree that this is only a matter of cut and paste. If I was not cutting and pasting the articles here, people would not be reading them and not be learning as much. I am quite confident that anyone who reads this message board on a regular basis has learned quite a bit, through both the articles that have been posted and the discussions that have arisen.

I am the main person that posts articles here, if for no other reason than I religiously check Google News and the like. I occasionally comment, but I usually don't. I like for other people to comment. Sometimes people do and sometimes they don't. While I have far more posts than anyone else, this website does not exist for the sole purpose of me telling people MY opinion on something. I do share my opinion a lot, but this website is for EVERYBODY.

I post articles for two reasons: 1. To inform and educate people.
2. To generate more discussion.
Things get slow here occasionally, and those are the times I look extra hard for interesting articles or websites. I always hope that something I post will spark an interesting debate in which somebody will learn something.

So I really don't think anybody who reads this board is like a kid sitting blindly in front of the TV. This board is an active process that anybody can participate in, and I am especially proud of all the younger athletes who do.


The bottom line is, my intentions are nothing but good in posting articles, and I am not the least bit worried about newspapers or whoever being upset.

First, if anyone had a problem with what I posted, I would remove it.

Second, my use is educational, non-profit, and likely fair use under copyright law.

Third, I am not worth a dime and neither is this website. It would cost far more to hire a lawyer than anyone could ever get out of suing me. I am still, last time I checked, a starving college student who relies on mom and dad to pay my tuition and rent. If I was not fortunate enough to have parents who could afford to help me through school, this website would not even be here.
