Lancaster's Saxer clears 14 feet for U.S. pole vault mark
1/9/2005
Mary Saxer of Lancaster High broke her own national high school record in the girls pole vault Saturday when she cleared 14 feet in the 36th annual Dartmouth Relays in Leverone Field House in Hanover, N.H.
Saxer, 17, qualified for the USA National Track & Field Championship at Boston's Reggie Lewis Center to be held in late February. She also broke the Dartmouth Relays record of 12-7 for high school competitors.
Her previous mark was 13-7.
"I knew I could do it," Saxer said. "Doing it in a meet like this with all the people around was so exciting."
Tiffany Maskulinski of Iroquois kept pace with Saxer until she failed to clear 13-51/2. Saxer continued on and cleared 14 feet on her second vault. Maskulinski finished second.
Saxer, who also was second in the long jump (18-51/2) and led off the Redskins' 800-meter relay that finished sixth, led Lancaster to second place in girls team scoring with 33 points.

Mary Saxer
Never believe anything you read from the papers. We were there and Tiffany won the 13' 5 1/2" level of the vault at her first attempt. Mary and Tiffany went on to 13' 7 1/4" to attempt the clubs best jump and Tiffany went unsuccessful at 13' 71/4" Mary went on to 14'
Believe it when we say High School girls vault is going to be exciting this year and Suhr Sports get a big smile for making the weekends so much fun.....

hoorah for girls pv!
yea, I noticed that too.
So where does everyone think this girls record is going to 'slow down' at? will it stand for a few years at 14'6"? 15'? I'm suprised 14' hasnt happened earlier, since 13-8 was a few years ago.
