help with making workouts

Unread postby patybobady » Tue Feb 08, 2005 1:19 am

i had a quick question. i know this has been in posts long ago, but what kind of workouts do people do during the beginning of the season? (what is a normal week like with no meets) right now i am coaching and have them vault twice a week and do a combination of workouts like 4x200's (2 sets), 5x150/5x100/5x50's, etc...or for pure speed 40's or 60's or cones (change gears at certain cones but short...) i also have them do a lot of accelerations and some lifting/gymnastics, etc.

i vaulted in college and did a lot of what i mentioned above, but i am open to suggestions. i am looking for help with deciding what to do for running (longer vs. shorter) and how much of it for the beginning of the season for some brand new vaulters and some semi-experienced vaulters.

thanks.

it never hurts to send them on long conditioning runs, or just practice sprints with them.

I coach out teams polevaulters, and early season we run 2x a week, mostly short runs my favorite work out is 8x20s 6x40s 4x60s 2x80s 1-4x100s or variations on that, its important to do all those at race pace and preferably running against a clock. We typically do 1 day of jumping from short runs, and then 1 day of pole plant and carys emphisizing the plant with 100s of pole runs/plants done from @ a 7 step these we do super slow or full speed. Finnaly we do a day of gymanstic-polevaulting exercises.
Hope this helps
