10 meters per second

How many guys have ever run 10 meters per second in the vault and how high have they jumped?

The four I know of are:

Bubka - 6.15
Gataullin - 6.02
Huffman - 5.97
Duplantis - ???

If you know of others who have run this fast and what their PR's are then lets see it.

There was a vaulter from Sweden I think......Perhaps Issacson???? Dev.......help me out here! His PR was only 5.70'something, but he hit over 10m/s a few times.

Did they have accurate data of meters per second way back in the early 70's when Isaksson jumped?

Peter Widen from Sweden ran an unreal 10.2 or 10.3 m/s...not consistently... but he was fast...usually 9.8+, but all his recorded 10+ were misses.

Keep in mind, that Bubka was pretty much the only vaulter to consistently run around 10 m/s and actually clear a bar...a few others have an odd clearance here or there...and most of these bars were also low bars...the vast majority of the time, the vaulter missed when they ran 10 m/s. All that speed is worthless if it sacrifices a good takeoff.

Excellent point! Obviously we all agree that speed is probably the most important factor in determining overall potential, but speed alone isn't enough. Look at Keenan King for example - good vaulter, excellent speed, poor takeoff. When that dude learns how to control all that speed and jump off the ground with a good step, watch out!

On the other end of the spectrum, that Russian that jumped for UTEP back around '98, Gorbatenko, was slower than a fat pirate with a wooden leg and a parrot on his shoulder, but had a sweet free takeoff and jumped around 5.20-5.30. Probably the slowest 17'+ guy ever, maybe beside Pete Kovacs

Actually, he jumped 5.50. There is absolutely no way he could break a 13 second 100m. Textbook takeoff though.
