The bigger the competition, the better Erica Hall gets. It was true when the Leesburg High graduate won consecutive pole vault state championships in her final two years of high school, and it was true again Sunday.
Hall, a freshman at Arkansas State, cleared 12 feet in the pole vault and won a three-way tiebreaker to walk away with the Sun Belt Conference indoor championship, held on the campus of Arkansas State. Hall wasn’t at her best early in the season, struggling with the adjustment to indoor events, the move to Jonesboro, Ark., and competition from teammate Michelle Leggett. Prior to Sunday, her best collegiate vault had been 11 feet, 5 3/4 inches.
But as the conference meet loomed, Hall felt things begin to come together. “The past couple of weeks I really pulled it together and had really good practices,â€Â
