Is this legal?

Unread postby CHC04Vault » Mon Mar 07, 2005 9:20 pm

I was watching some clips of Yalena Isinbayeva jumpin at the European Championships on stabhochsprung.com, and i noticed her grip is almost at the end of the pole, and when i mean almost, i mean, im almost 100% that she is past the 2 inches in which is the maxium hand hold, u can't even see the end of the pole...is this safe (i've never really tried, im always right on it, but never over it) let alone a legal jump?

I'm almot positive that it is legal in both the collegiate and elite levels of competition. Holding over the saftey band is only illegal in high school.

Poles were designed to be held at the top, the high school federation is the one that got in there and decided it was unsafe (not hte manufacturers).

Well you gotta hold at whatever the right grip height is. You should never just hold the top of a pole for the sake of being at the top of the pole.

holding at the top of the pole shouldnt change your vault as long as that is the height you should be gripping
