I added some tape to one of my poles at Nationals. It was some kind of hockey tape (not grip tape, it's similar to electrical tape but they sell it in lots of colors).

I would also think that the type of vinyl used for automotive pinstriping and graphics would work. You can find that stuff at any autobody supply shop but bring the check book cause it ain't cheap. And because it's so thin it's kind of a booger to work with. That being said, I'll bet that's what they use at the factory and probably don't know it. Brands you're looking for is, 3M, Sharpline, Pro-Stripe. I've got a roll of 4 inch black out in the garage right now. That would be to wide for that small of a wrap. Get the 2 inch, take your time talk to an auto trimmer first so he or she can give you a few pointers on application and tape yourself up a metallic purple pole, or metallic silver. With that stuff, the sky's the limit. Later................Mike P.S. I know about this stuff cause I worked with it for close to 10 years. One more thing. If you are using this stuff it will have an outer clear coat of tape called a pre-mask. That doesn't stay on once the vinyl is applied. If you're over lapping a little(like you would wrap the athletic tape around to grip with)you'll have to take the pre-mask off before you apply to the pole. If you did get a widepiece of it and went from top to bottom so there would be 1 seam going down the bottom of the pole you can work the tape with the premask on.
